Case 220 gear oil

Changing all fluids for the spring. I forget what is used in the rear ?? 15/40 motor oil in the hydraulic system, 20/50 or straight 30 weight in engine ?

You can use 20W50 or 15W40 in the hydraulic system and in the trans-axle.

In warm weather, the engine should have ONLY straight 30 weight oil. In the winter, 10W30 in the Kohler is OK but keep a close eye on the level because the engine will use multigrade oils faster than straight grades and the oil pan on Case spec'd Kohlers is smaller than on other tractor brands.

Therefore, oil level is crucial if you want the engine to last. ♠

Thanks, appreciate the info. The 10/30 I put in for the winter worked ok. Had to haul wood once or twice a week in the trailer for the outdoor wood boiler. Beats a wheel barrow any day.

Gear oil in the transaxle, engine oil in the hydraulic system.

Gear oil is NOT necessary in the trans-axle Yes..it can be used but EVERY manual printed by Colt, Case and Ingersoll give you the option of using motor oil.
