Here is a video I made a few weeks ago mowing some tall grass around my barn with the 1973 IH Cub Cadet 149.

Enjoy!

Pretty much bullet proof. I have a 107. And it has never let me down. Tough little tractors for their size. This is probably why they're no longer produced today. They weren't designed to be throw away tractors.

i've got a model 72 gear drive I bought used about 1979, and a model 70 Dad traded an Original for in 1965, it's mowed two farm yards most of it's first 20 years. Not sure how many engines it's had, has my old 10 hp Kohler that came out of a 105 or something about 1981, I'd bought a new 10 Hp Kohler from the salesman from Kohler that handled the IH account. I also have a 1981 982 with all the options, frt hyd outlets, steering brakes and Cat Zero 3-point, if I was going to run it a lot I'd install power steering. Not sure how many times I've cussed that Onan engine, Been LOTS. points & Condensor lasts about 40-50 running hours and last 2-3 sets have cost $140+ and UPS charges plus handling. Next time I'm replacing it with stuff from KIRK Engines. It burns a L-O-T of gas, 4 gallon tank lasts something between 1 & 2 hours. My Cub Cadet LZ TANK zero turn, 27 hp Kawasaki mows about twice a fast and burns half as much gas. I've bought replacement belts for every belt on the zero turn but never installed any, three new primary air filters for the two stage filter and a single set of new mower blades. I think that's pretty good for a 10 year old mower, 340 engine hours. I guess they STILL DO build them like the used to, maybe even better.

Good looking and running outfit.
You might want to adjust the steering box to reduce the slop.
