Fluffy (mice) builds nest in my engine weekly

Worst part is I forget to pull and clean under the engine cowl. The B&S isn't too difficult but it takes longer to clean the Kohler than it takes to mow the lawn. Where is all that fiberglass insulation coming from? Any suggestions?

I'll give it a try. Placed a half dozen moth balls over the fan screen covered with an empty ice cream pail. Haven't figured out the Kohler yet. The fan screen is vertical and there's a PTO sticking out. Luckily any nests won't seal the side draft cylinders like on the B&S down draft cylinders.

Good morning, circus and others: I am not able to look directly at your engine, but I will say many problems where mice are filling the air passages with junk, is that they come in through the outlet passage-ways. The housing around the flywheel/fan may not be the main area where they are getting in! Just me talking...

Yea, didn't think they were. The ice cream pail concentrates the smell to where it'll do the most good. I hope

Put some heavy duty mouse blocks in there somewhere and let them chew on that. I had problems with them building nests inside my snowmobile engine. I now put a couple blocks on each side of the cowl every spring and check them regularly through the summer when I start it each month. I no longer have problems with that particular engine.

Leave them a little snack.. Add a few drops of bacon grease for a little extra flavor. Mice can't resist bacon grease.

Poison?
Considering the outbuilding condition, it would only create a temporary rodent void filled in no time.

Just keep track of them. When one disappears, replace it. Over time you will find that they no longer disappear. I used to have a
terrible rodent problem.....no more.

I use the rectangular 2 long, hole through the middle for wiring to a deadman Tom Cat or something like that name, white plastic
pail with green, yellow, and black writing. They are weatherproof so you can put them wherever you wish.

water bucket with tilting lid and a ramp leading to the top. I have offed over two dozen mice in the first month. Very little stench of dieing critters, but you do have to refresh the water every few weeks. Peanut butter bait. Leo
