Engine oil for a 1976 wheelhorse charger 12

I recently bought a 1976 wheelhorse charger 12,what is the best engine oil to use.i live in Connecticut.

Do you use it in the winter?? My self I'd use the O'Reilly's 20W-50 but if used in the winter that might be to thick so maybe a 10W-40

It don't matter what the tractor is !! What brand/model is the motor ?????????????

nless someone replaced the original engine, it's a Kohler k301s. I'd dump in whatever I had on hand. 10-30, 10-40, whatever.

The original manual for Kohler engines
said 10w-30 but for reduced oil
consumption use 30w.
I can't remember what it said about Temps
below 32 degrees

it is the original engine but I don't see any numbers on it. I was stuck today so I put some sae 5w30 in it that I had . Says Kohler cast engine.
