Grimm S8 tedder... serial number 0001???

We recently had to find the serial numbers on all of our ancient haying equipment. We're going over to the dark side and applying for a USDA loan for our farm.

Never thought I'd see the day... but when they are giving farm grants to people building wedding barns... well, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. And... when you lose 900 acres of hay ground within a five mile radius to solar panels...(that's another post)

Anyway, our old Grimm S8 tedder, when we looked at the plate, it said

S8 0001

What are the chances that this old codger is the first one off of the assembly line?

Good luck on dealing with the USDA Is all Ive got to
say . If you want the money by spring I would hope you
had all your ducks in a row and papers filled in January.
I tried that one time and it was an absolute disaster.
Wanted to expand the cow herd and the USDA money
looked cheap and a good idea lets just say I was
wrong . Filled all the papers out they said no you cant
make it work oh but your a minority we have to give
you the money Just fill out more paperwork well
another month passed and I got approved finally but it
was to late the cows I wanted were sold and I thought
maybe that was a blessing in disguise in not having to
deal with the guberment

Back in the day some implements were not serial numbered. Deere did that on some spreaders, rotary mowers and loaders. They just used a series number. Tom

Interesting. Thanks.

It really doesn't matter to me. We like the old tedder. We have that old Grimm and a Bush Hog HT210 (Sitrex). We use two 7' haybines. When we go back out to tedd. The Bush Hog, hooked to our New Holland T4030 efficiently tedds two haybine swaths at once (if you set the haybine to windrow mode, a 10' tedder can grab two adjacent swaths from a 7' haybine). And our little Grimm, hooked to our old Ford 2N efficiently tedds out another.

So... for 1600 bucks (400 for the Grimm and 1200 for the Bush Hog) we tedd 21' of swath... without needing to fold/unfold etc, etc.

And... if we're going to need to play between the solar panels in the future, those little tedders will fit.
