Tucker fingers

We talked about the tucker finger springs
a while ago and where to hook them but one
thing I never see addressed. There is
spring hookup on each finger but mine only
hs spring on one. Couple neighbors have
only one spring on theirs but we all
bought our balers used. How many springs
should there be? Mine has worked perfect
for thousands of bales so I'm not going to
put a second spring on even if it calls
for two. Old saying,,,you can't argue with
success.

It's called redundancy and balance.

If the baler can operate on one, and the probability of failure is one in 10,000 bales, then having two reduces the probability to one in 100 million bales. Essentially making the tucker finger spring failure a moot point.

On a NH baler, the tucker finger springs also connect to the knotter frames, providing a little controlled motion for the knotter frame to float with needle friction and always pulling everything, knotter frames and tucker fingers back to the same home position knot after knot.

For the few bucks it costs for a spring, I run two. At least it's one type of failure that I can forget about.
