Deere 30,40 and 50 series options question.

I have had all three,a 4230,4440 and a 4250.Seems like most of these tractors came off the assembly line with a QR trans and dual remotes and to a lesser degree a front weight bracket wth or without weights especially on the 40 series. So if a farmer wanted or needed extras would the local dealer add the options or could they be factory ordered kinda like cars and trucks. The reason I ask this is I recently purchased a 4440 with some options. This tractor originally came from Idaho potato country. It has extra long axles, triple remotes and three point lift assist with category three draft arms.Im thinking this tractor was ordered this way for specific row crop work. Also interesting to note that the tractor never had duals
mounted on it and wheels were set in close.I think it's kind of interesting to note stuff like this on tractors and think about how they were used or not used. And to consider how a particular farmers plans may change over the course of owning a tractor and modifiy/change the tractor accordingly. To me it's fun too look at older tractors on auction and note any options they might have.Ok done thinking out loud now.

IIRC no tractors came from factory with weights unless special ordered for a particular customer. I remember adding both front & rear weights to new 20,30 & 40 series tractors when I was employed by a JD dealer.

I think the dealers ordered them the way they thought their customers would want them, or would special order if the customer wanted to wait. When I bought a new 4040, they didn't have one on the lot or on order, so they found one on another dealer's lot that was as close as they could come to the way I wanted it and they had it transferred.

You could custom order the options that you wanted. When there was a waiting list Deere would throw extra weights and options on and delete other options off from a custom order depending on what they had on hand that day. The buyer had to negotiate the difference with the dealer. That happened to dad several times in the 1970s.

paulsamwel In August 1972 Earl Wayne and I went to Muskogee OK to look at some new tractors from John Deere. I took these price sheets home and scanned them several years ago and put them on here every few years. Lynn
