John Deere 2010 with loader

I'm going to take a look at John Deere 2010 with loader. Don't know what year. What I should look for? The owner says it runs but need the carb cleaned.

Are they that bad?
Which model will work best if I want to add 3 point backhoe later on?

1020 was basically the same as a 301 Industrial, 2020 was a 401 Industrial. Pretty much bullet proof. Others can
give their opinion on a 2010.

I see A LOT of 2010 for sale but not so many the one you mentioned

Great tractor to add to a collection for display and parades, not so much for a working tractor. They were a problem child for Deere and were quickly replaced by an entirely new design in about 1965. Search the archives for more information.

JD 2010 tractors didn't get labeled as the sorriest JD tractor built by mere accident. 2010's earned that title by being sorry.

. Glad that you asked now . What we usually see posted is somebody who has bought a 2010. Then they ask if a 2010 is any good .

I'm surprised John Deere model has a bad reputation. Thank You guys for the advice.
Which older model will be best to use with loader and backhoe?

I had a 2010 I bought just for the loader. It had been worked to death but gave me a few years of
service. If its in absolutely running condition and fully functional could probably give you reasonable
service. When the time comes for repairs just junk it.

I did occasional repairs on a 2010 diesel with a DuAl loader for a local man for MANY years until he passed a couple of years ago.

He was VERY inept at machinery operation and maintenance, yet it gave him a couple of decades of service with no more issues than most other tractors from the same era would have had.

YAMMV!

I looked at one a few years back. In good shape and I drove it some. Had a hiss from one cylinder and I couldn't tell if it was a bad valve
or the crack in the manifold. Guy wanted $4500, I passed.

I have always heard when it comes to JD 2010's that you cant fix a bad 2010 and you cant break a good 2010. With that being said, I still wouldn't buy a 2010.

I also heard that same statement back when I was employed by JD dealer when 2010's were nearly new.

John deere 2020 would be my choice, too. Good unit with a loader and backhoe on three-point.. Trouble-free and dependable, Serviceable by you with parts available.. Good little unit..

I have gas and diesel 2010 models and have had no more issues with either one than any other 55 year old piece of equipment. I would stress that this has been one man's experience. This is not to say that I have not had problems, however, the problems I have run into, without fail, stem from 1. a lack of maintenance on the previous owners part and 2. sitting for long periods of time (years) without being used.

I would second this, I lurked on these sites for awhile, first post. I got the chance to get a 2010 with loader that had been neglected and some questionable repairs done on it. The guy let me use it for a few weeks, after that I bought it pretty reasonably when most other tractors were outa my reach. I ve now had it for going on 4 years and it s been a real asset and couldn t be happier with it. I ve done some repairs and maintenance on it since I ve had it but I m glad I didn t listen to the bad opinions on these tractors. I think a lot of the problems were from it not being run much, it fires right up every time and uses no oil. Ive enjoyed owning and wrenching on it it so much that I just bought another 2010, a wheel diesel backhoe that was parked 20 years ago and left for dead.

I would not be afraid of a 2010 GAS. They have no more or no less issues than any other 60-year-old tractor. Alot has to do with how it was used, abused, and maintained by the previous owners. Yes, they can be difficult to work on

If it's a 2010 DIESEL, run away from it.

Now, since this 2010 GAS and has a loader, I would still run a away from it as it does not have the hydraulic capacity as the other 10/20 series tractors.

For loader application for this size tractor, look for a 2510, 2020, or a 30/40 series utility.
