Add power steering to MF 50

So I am new to older tractors and have recently acquired a Massey Ferguson MF50 with manual steering.

I am wondering if anyone knows if there are original parts that could be added to the tractor to add power steering or if there are any aftermarket kits available? If the answer is yes to either where would I look in order to buy everything needed?

Thanks

Yes, MF50s had power steering as a factory option so if you can get all the parts from a salvage yard or find another parts MF50 that has power steering you can add it to your tractor. I don't know of any aftermarket kits.

The steering box under the steering wheel stays the same, all the changes are up front behind the grill, and you will need the power steering pump that installs in place of the cover on the left front side of the engine. I did this conversion in 2006 on my first MF50 with parts from TIPS tractor parts in Tennessee, but I think they are closed now.

Awesome, thank you for the pictures.

Other than the pump and the cylinder (and hoses) are there any other components that you needed to purchase?

Something else that I just thought of is sometimes different tractors would share parts, would I be constrained to used parts from other MF 50 tractors or are there other tractors from that vintage that might share some of these parts?

Thanks

You would need the bracket that the piston attaches to on the left in the picture, the piston and valve assembly, the steering tower assembly that the draglink attached to from the steering box, and the pitman arm that goes on the bottom of the steering tower underneath where the tie rods connect. Plus the pump and hoses. These parts should be the same between the MF50, MH50, and Ferguson F40 tractors. Many of these parts are shared with the MF65 as well, although the pumps may not work from a 65. You can go to the Agco online parts books and look up other old MF model tractors and see if they share any parts numbers with the MF50 parts.

I did that to my gas mf65. I found all parts at salvage yard. Not sure if the 50 is similar to the 65. The only issue I had was new arms hit turning left, so had to grind a little to clear steering.
