MF 135 with Continental

Got a MF 135 with the Z145 Continental engine. Started smoking, low compression in #3. Oil and smoke out of the breather. Loaned the tractor for some light grading. Now oil running out from valve cover along with water running down block, in all a big mess. I think the head gasket is blown and either a valve or piston gone too. So I will be looking for a complete rebuild kit. Would prefer not China made. Any suggestions on a quality kit or which kits here on YT, and do I have to split the tractor? Any tips? USA tractor.

Can't offer any specific recommendations on a kit (other than that I haven't been too impressed with anything from 'AgKits.com'), but before you get
too worried or deep into parts I'd pull the head off and take a gander. The symptoms you describe could all be from just a bad head gasket (blow out
between a jacket & #3 would cause smoke and low compression. If kept running like that it might blow out a little more to an oil passage/block cavity).

Low compression could require adjusting the valve lash, and overheating may have blown the gasket causing leaks.

I rebuilt my z134 with 6000+ hours, I wasn't the first owner so I don't know if it was rebuilt prior.
After measuring the bore pistons, wrist pins rods etc and looking at the specs everything was within tolerances.
I only did the piston rings, they were off by a few thousands and getting the complete engine seal kit.
Yours maybe in a worse shape once you open it.

I just went into my Z145 and put a turned crank 30 20 and found a lot of problems trying to refit the flywheel bolts which later i found they were not the right length and then the flywheel pressure plate bolts were not grade 8 and cannot thread two of them in but yet the flywheel threads are taking the bolt well when the plate is not on. I can tighten them up and snug them but as soon as i put the plate on two of the bolts will not take even when i have the disc lined up with the tool. Not sure what is going on so looks like i have to make a trip to find the correct bolts which i have not real idea how long they need to be. One person said 1 inch and i think he meant on the thread only but the bolt has a shoulder that is longer and i cannot find anywhere the bolt that fits that plate correctly as some one went into this engine before and put what they thought would work. I cannot find the original specification on the bolt lenght. Any idea?
