I am working on a 1085 with a Perkins 4.318 diesel engine. I am not happy with the way it starts. The injection pump and injectors have been rebuilt by a reputable shop. I have double checked injection timing and it is set per the MF service manual. I have set the valves. Checked head stud torque. It has two new batteries and good cables. I installed a new gear reduction starter. It seems to spin fast enough to start.

I checked compression on the cylinders, and they are all 350 psi, plus or minus a couple of psi. My manual does not list limits for compression pressure. Does anyone know what it should be?

Thanks
Rich

350-400 is good. Valves should be .012 cold/.010 hot. Post the injector TIP number and I'll see if they are the right tips. Any work done on the cylinder head, like all new seats installed?
