I acquired a u on an auction. I was thinking about making a good plow day tractor. A friend told me i could put a 403 in it. I didn't want to
get to carried away with horsepower, I thought about putting a 336 in it. Would i have any cooling problems with either one of these engines

I had a U with a 336, NO PROBLEMS, I also have a U with a 403+, so for I've not had a problem, but only pulled it, not plowed with it, so far see no problem

I have a '53 UTS with a 403 in it. There were some issues with mounting the starter, because I used a power unit crankcase.

As far as operation, It wanted to boil the water in the radiator. (Actually I was pulling an Athens bog harrow, not a bottom plow. But only about a 5 ft width.) I had the radiator shop re-core it with a (I think) a four row core, but I never plowed with it again after that.

No cooling problems if you have a good working
Radiator. Putting a 403 in isnt hard , it just
Requires alot of grinding depending on year. Ive done it
3 times. Makes a pretty powerful tractor
