I have Pertronix systems on two generators as well as my 1952 8N. Works well, but you MUST have resistance wires - DO NOT use solid core wires. Pertronix will not warrant a failed module if you do. zuhnc

I can't answer that Dale, I've never had a need nor desire to go to EI. I know how to do a tune-up and set points. Question I have for you is what system are you using, front mount or side mount, and 6V or 12V. I'm sure it matters. Issues are usually the result of incorrect wiring and my understanding is if you get EI wired wrong, you can fry something. Also, EI works best on 12V. Here's a Pictogram by JMOR on EI wiring for the 9N/2N models with the front mount distributor. Note that the 8N is wired differently so an EI will be wired different as well. 9N/2N sed a 1-Wire Starter Motor and NO RELAY (SOLENOID) and a 1-WIRE/3-BRUSH GENERATOR with the CUTOUT. 8N's used a 3-WIRE/STARTER MOTOR PLUS a RELAY (SOLENOID) and a 3-WIRE/3-BRUSH GEN on early models, a 2 BRUSH unit on later models. ALL front mount distributor models use the Ballast Resistor regardless if 6V or 12V.

I thought my 9n pertronix was the reason my engine stopped and would not fire. It turned out my fiber camshaft gear had stripped. So check to see if your cam gear is turning. The newer tractors used an aluminum bolt on gear and a different camshaft.
