1800C Transmission Issues

Bought an 1800C yesterday. That I knew had transmission issues but I bought it for the loader that s on it to go on my 1850. If I can fix the tractor I m not opposed to keeping it.

I guessing at the gear numbers because I can t read the plaque.

In R1,2, and 4 it will go in gear and drive. In all other gears it grinds. R2 it starts to try to pull its self then grinds. I noticed when playing with the hydropower (non working currently) that sometimes in 4th gear when I shifted back into direct it the tractor kind of fell out of 4th gear. But if you pushed the clutch down and took off again it would go without moving the gear shift. I m not sure if it was just a coincidence that it happened when I was playing with the hydropower or that s what caused it. I could not get it to replicate this often enough to be sure they are a linked problem.

Previous owner states if you pull the hydropower lever up and crack the filter it sprays oil everywhere but it doesn t work.

Thanks for any information!

I would for sure be taking the top off to have a look. I wonder if there's a bent or broken fork?

Definately get in touch with John, he knows his Olivers and has helped me many times. I agree with Randy, check the shifting forks. The sprag clutch is getting weak in my 1550, sometimes under a load when you pull rod into under it will stop moving until you push the clutch pedal and release, then it will engage but you describe yours as the opposite so not sure whats going on. (In all other gears it grinds) If the gears are grinding, the shafts must be turning. Does the chain coupler stop turning when you push the clutch down? Will it go into those gears with the engine shut off? Sounds like it could be more than one problem to investigate. Chris
