Transmission codes Head gasket leak

I am considering buying an OLiver Super 88 Diesel. Spec Number is : 18-0172. Serial number is: 44-773-804. I understand that the 804 designates a transmission type. What is the difference between an 804 and an 801?

Also, What is it really worth? He is asking $4800. It runs good. I don't know how it starts because he had it running when I got there to look at it. I did notice some small bubbles at the head gasket line. It has duals on it also. Was that an option?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe 801 is the regular speed transmission and 804 is the slow speed. $4800 seems high to me for a Super 88.

Having it running when you got there would make me think it's a hard starter, low compression maybe. Bubbles at the head gasket, another possible problem coming up. I think $4800 is high.

It's a 57 Improved Super though, so a little higher value than an early one. 48 is a good starting
point, but I'd want to come back with 3 and see if we could meet somewhere in the middle.

Price is all about location. I have sold 3 tractors in the last couple of months and I have gotten every penny that I asked. I have the only Super 88 I know of in my surrounding area. I priced mine this past week for $4500.00 and the man never exchanged words with me. He is to pick it up this week.

If you buy it and you wind up taking the head off it take the head off get all 12 valve seats put in to set the valve recession set correctly with the valve eats. 804
is the slow speed rear end. Questions send me an e-mail. J.
