Dremel 200 Attachments

My nephew recently gifted me a Dremel 200 (excellent condition) with no bits/attachments. What basic set of bits do you recommend for general shop work? Nothing fancy at this point.

Thank you,
Glenn F.

Depends what you're doing, of course, but I use carbide burrs and diamond cutting wheels extensively. Buy an inexpensive burr set (one listed below, plenty more at any of the obvious places) and you'll learn which ones you use and are then worth buying better or multiple of. Other than that, a basic accessory kit can be had for $20 or so and will get you started. Like many things, more than half you'll probably never use, but it's a question of WHICH half, and you probably don't know that until you start using it.

As mentioned, I do much of my cutting (and shaping, for that matter) with diamond wheels. While abrasive cutting disks will also work, I find the thin, cheap ones are frustratingly easy to break. The reinforced ones are better, though also thicker, which means they do not cut as quickly, and considerably more expensive. Diamond wheel kit below is, again, just one of many, but will give you an ideal of their capabilities for a reasonable investment.

I use the little cut off wheels, the sanding drum. I few stones on occasion, and just recently got the carbide bits. I love them all.

my Dremel occupies a place of honor at my workbench. it hangs on a hook on the pegboard on the wall above the bench. a foot from an outlet. I use pretty much the same as UncleTom.

I use one quite a bit. Just to $20 or so set. Then the stuff used most frequently gets upgraded. I do use the little drum sander for dog toenails. It works great. Just on low speed or you can get the nail hot. Reminds me, it's about time to do the Corgi. Did the rottweiler the other day. Used the drum sander to make some walnut grips for one of my Colt Frontier Scouts. Came out pretty nice. Just need to drill the hole and oil them.
