Today we'll look into Kentucky!
This was a hard decision, there are dozens of great songs about Kentucky!
So, I settled on this one. Then I had to decide between Loretta Lynn, or Emmylou Harris! So, I went with Loretta because she was the first to record it!
This was written by Johnny Mullins, a very successful, award winning songwriter, who only wrote as a hobby. In spite of his song writing ability, he never left his day job as a school janitor.
Loretta Lynn recorded the song as a single and the title song of her album from 1965. The song went to #7 on the US charts.
It's a sad song about a simple country girl who's been dumped by her lover for the big city life. Yet she promises to wait until the thrill wears off, and she will welcome him back home.
