I needed to replace the bearings on my furnace. I ordered the number on the existing bearing that was removed. It was made in China . I ordered a SKF bearing with the same number. The SKF was 0.32 thousands to small . Do these people know the difference between metric & SAE . What did I do wrong.

TYPICALLY, if you look closely there should be an additional suffix letter or number on one of the bearings indicating a special size.

Possibly misread the number? or somebody
pulled the wrong bearing. Blower fan
motor? it's likely a 6203? Virtually all
ball bearings used in stuff like that are
metric unless suffixed with the special
bore. 6203 designates dimensions,followed
by nothing means open bearing. 2rs (which
is 2 rubber seals) or ZZ (which is metal
shields) Then after that would be 1/2 5/8
etc signify special bore. Most but not all
manufacturers use this system.

I've run into that, a typically metric dimension bearing that has an inch dimension bore.

Measure the old bearing carefully and call a bearing supply. They will know what you want and probably
have them in stock, common item.

Working with old snowmobiles like I do, 6205 is a very common bearing. But there are places that use a 6205-1 bearing. It is a 25mm 6205 bore vs 6205-1 a sae 1 inch bore, a difference of .0157. OD and width are the same. Could you have a similar situation?

I took the motor to an electric shop . The guy said there were 3 bearings with that number . Metric- sae and there was another 1 0.05 over. I just gave them the armature and they pressed the bearings on. Cost me $14.00 a bearing & $2.00 to install .
