MFWD question

going to look at an IH 633 where they've removed the front drive shaft. Tractor isn't running.
What possible reasons would the shaft be removed? Seized? Better turing radius? Ruined?
thanks

I am working on a Case/DB 1494 that has the same issue. I am fairly certain it was done because they replaced the front tires with the wrong size(2 sizes smaller) ones. I am hoping that they removed it before they tore up the drop box.

The seller told me it was "lost, stolen. sold for scrap" when the clutch was replaced, but I am pretty suspicious of that.

We had a 584 with the shaft removed every summer so hay didn't wrap.

The same tractor broke the splined flange on the ZF front axle later in its life and went without a shaft for a season while we looked for parts.

IH had some real oddball models... and I think that's one of them. Frightfully expensive to fix that axle. You might want to whistle while you walk away.
None of them are cheap to fix but you want to find one with a ZF axle. That ine had an early setup; mabey a schindler?

RUN!!!! That tractor is a repair bill waiting to happen. Nieghbor bought a new one out of Canada. He wanted MFWD and you could not get it on the American model, IH 644. This guy was not rough on equipment. In the first 2000 hrs he had to repair the front end twice. It cost him $2000-3000 in late 1970s dollars each time. He finally had enough and replaced it with A MF 283 MFWD in 1985. He still has that tractor and has not done anything other than one starter.
