Prarie Dog Extermination

I live in town so shooting these rodents is out. Has anybody ever tried this underground exterminator? I am thinking about trying this method. They are in our front yard, and I want them gone before they ruin it.

I says run engine for 15-30 min. Better keep an eye out for a melting garden hose. I belw up a large air matteress with the truck one time and the hose got hot pretty quick in less than 5, Plus I woke up exhautsed the next morning. Lol!

Six pumps on a Sheridan air rifle, and a 5mm pellet will decimate one at 25 yards. Silent and deadly. $125.00 and fun to boot.

i live in lovington nm so im not very far from you.we bought a piece of flex pipe to put over the pickup tail pipe,put it in hole covered it with dirt.pumped in exhuast for about 10 minutes worked great.

i would just take a 20lb. propane tank and torch and give each hole a shot of propane. since its heavier than air that should killem.

I got me one of there.. They work.

However:

Last Tuesday I was blasting some gopher holes in my pasture...It all went well, but when I took my ear plugs out, I heard some crackling sounds. About 10 feet out from where I was, 2 small pillow size grass fires burning, erupting out of a couple of tunnels that fed from the blasting tunnel. I tried stomping them out but all that was doing was burning my boots. My wife had a garden hose running, watering a fruit tree near by. By the time I grabbed it, the fire had spread to about a 12'x12' area, in about a 30 second time frame.
Very scary. I now have a fire extinguisher on my cart.

Gary, My F-I-L That lives @ Stratford, Tx has been using a grain fumigant that is in large pills or pellets form. Usually after a rain, so there is some ground moisture to activate the pills....you have to use heavy rubber gloves , pour out 4 to 6 pills, pour them into the prairie dog hole, wad up some newspaper and push the paper down the hole with a old broom stick or straight hoe handle. Then take a shovel and cover the hole with soil and stomp it down hard. Go to next hole and repeat the process above. Come back in tomorrow and recheck and retreat any dig outs. Keep checking for 3 to 5 days. This will wipe out a large colony of prairie dogs in a hurry! Sure beats waiting around and hoping the plague kills them out!!! Hope this helps.

At Dimmitt we use to get Cyanide pills that were about 2" long, 3/4" across and drop in and close the hole. T;he never dug that hole back out.

Here is another one. A little more pricey but comes with a hose.

But remember, those little devils are probably following this thread too and are planning some sort of revenge!
