Busted our hump the last 3 days once I was done with work and son's doctor apointment on Friday, and managed to get our only dry-ish field planted. Dad hauled a few loads on Friday while I was doing what I needed to do, and once I got to the farm I changed the oil on our 1855 and hooked onto the spring tooth to scratch the soil open to help it dry, then started hauling manure on it.
I hauled all day on Saturday cleaning up behind the barn, and had my nephews riding along for a while one at a time. I worked in what I had hauled and called it a night.
Sunday they were calling for rain in the afternoon/evening hours, so I hauled a few more loads from the cow yard on the other side of the barn while Dad got the planted greased and ready (found out we don't have the B2-24 plates we needed) and then went on a fertilizer run while dad let the cows out. Got a few drops on my way to the elevator so I got nervous, but kept pace and just kept my head down. Once I got home I hopped on the 1855 again and worked the field one more time, this time with the drag on the back of the field cultivator, and Dad did a few more chores and drove the planter to the field and went home to get the fertilizer while I finished. As soon as I was done and folding up the tillage equipment (all manual fold) Dad was on his way down with the fertilizer wagon so we loaded up about 1/2 full and I started planting.
Was gonna skip the sweet corn because it was looking pretty dark in the sky, but my brother and dad came out and we stuck it in quick. Got done planting by about 6:30 and no rain yet by 10:00. No idea if we got any rain yet as I can't see outside right now.
Hopefully it'll dry up this week so we can get the rest of it in by next weekend.
Best part about today was I got to work (and I actually mean WORK) all 4 of our tractors. 165 is our loader, 285 is the hauler, 1855 in the tillage tractor and 1600 is the planter tractor. Brother was out with his 550 working too. He took about 3 1/2 acres or so for pumpkins so he was running his hiller, planter, and sprayer with it. Needs rain to activate the weed spray before it's too late though. It's a pre-emergent made for vine crops and it helps quite a bit with weeds.
