well i made it another day with the mini thungs went well alost got stuck again but i managed to pull out of it.had my hand on the hyd lever pretty steady when i felt the tractor start sinking i lifted the disc. I have about another 30 acres to go but it got warm out here today and in that soft ground the mini was starting to get warm so i did not take any chances of cooking anything tomorrow is another day. the mini is using more oil than i thought it would but it is an older unknown tractor. I have a question about these old tractors. Somebody told me that when a motor sits for a long time it will use oil for a while until everthing loosens up do you guys agree with that?

It is quite true that stuck rings and light rust on cylinder walls can cause restart oil consumption. It is, however, not going to get better if the hours and use were at the rebuild time. Best of luck. Jim

I like your pictures and tractors and paint jobs But I keep coming back to this one nagging question. Why are you using such a heavy tractor and inplement for the first trip over a wet field? Have you thought about using a lighter weight tactor (for instance a 460 Farmall, 830 Case, or other simular light weight tractor pulling a 4 or 6 r0w rotary at about 9 to 10 mph.) Light weight to avoid compaction. Go fast to break crust and throw dirt to dry ground. Few ruts and lots less compaction. A day or two ground should be dry enough for serious shallow tillage (3 to 5 inches) than plant. I do understand though this has not been a normal spring and I am not sure about youg soil conditions and texture. I welcome your thoughts and comments. Armand
