straw per acre??

Hey folks, I know there are some if's, and's, and but's, but can someone tell me about how much straw to expect from an acre of barley (in tons, 4x5' rounds, or small square bales)?

My experience was about as many small squares per acre as it yielded in bushels of barley.

Thanks. don't have that info tho. Should have been a little more specific I guess....... Got a couple folks offered to leave straw whole (not chopped) for me to bale. Fields are anywhere from one to 3 acres in size. Just want o be able to tell them what I can use.

On a good year, one of our small fields a 5 acre patch, will produce 15 700lb bales of straw, though this is from Oats, after harvest. Things that affect the straw yield are fertilizer and plant height, as well as how low the combine cuts it, I've tracked the quantity of straw on this field for 3 years, and it ranged from 10 to 15 bales, latter being a good year, with some extra fertilizer applied when the spray outfit applied weed killer.

I average 35 bales (small squares) of oat straw per acre. Don't raise much barley, but it seems like there was just slightly less straw than from oats. But it does vary, just like you said. Had one field that went 50 bales per acre the year before last.

That's the same formula I use for spring wheat straw.

You have been dry there???? I would say 35-50 little square bales per acre. In real good barley or wheat you can get 100 plus bales per acre.

That's highly variable.... Also consider where you're at. I suspect that the yeild will be much on the higher side for a good crop 'there' compared to what one might see in the more traditional barley growing areas over here...
That said, we've seen anywhere from 10 small squares up to close to 100 on the odd crop with 40-50 being fairly average for here. That would convert to mabey 3-4 rounds on average, per acre.
