I have a 1955 Allis Chalmers WD45. I had to put a new starter drive on 2 years ago. Ever since I"ve had a problem with the starter drive sticking now and then when it"s not a good time. I usually just oil the shaft and it works for a while. It just did it again tonight. I took it off but haven"t looked at it yet. Any suggestions? It"s time to fix this problem.

If the ring gear teeth are good, I would replace the drive with an authentic Delco/AC part. Best of luck. Jim

clean the gear drive no oil or grease to hold the dust fron the clutch if you have a rear seal leaking it will give problems every once in a wile

Check the ring gear, there are probably 4 spots that are worn. You may be able to dress them up with files, or a dremel tool, but most likely, ring gear needs to be either turned around, or rotated a few degrees, to get undamaged teeth into the right spot. Or you could do the job right, and put a new ring gear on! Also, check to be sure you have the right starter drive, should have the same throw, and # of teeth, as the original.
