NH TC29D won't crank

Have a 12 year old tractor that won"t crank. Battery shows 12.75 volts, connections are all clean, fuses ok, dash light not bright, fuel gage works, cold starting indicator light does not come on (though it did faintly at the begining of the problem), no solenoid ratcheting. Headlights or flashers don"t come on. Thought maybe a defective switch but flashers are supposed to work without switch on though headlights require switch on. Any thoughts?

You need to check for voltage to your switches and solenoid. Use a volt meter or test lite. Use a screwdriver to short across the terminals on the solenoid. Make sure brakes are set and the tranny out of gear. Hal

You'll never believe! A friend found another person posted the same problem on another tractor forum. After six pages of suggestions he drilled an 1/8" hole 1/4" deep in the molded positive battery cable clamp into the copper wire. Inserted his multi-meter probe and found resistance. Must have been an internal crack, corrosion, etc. Lopped off the clamp and installed a new one and fired right up. I had the same problem so good to go.

Another way to test that would have been to touch the pos. probe of your meter to the pos. battery clamp or better yet to the solenoid where it connects (assuming it connects there) then turn on the ign. and try to crank. You would see the voltage drop significantly. Quicker and easier than drilling a hole then trying to measure resistance.
