Sky Stream 3.7 residential wind turbine.

I almost have my mortgage paid off and was thinking about installing a sky stream 3.7. The wind blows like crazy through the Genesee River Valley so I would like to install this wind turbine. Anyone here have one of these units? What do you think about them?

From what I have read the wind generators only pay out if the tax breaks are needed. The rest of the time the electric generated is higher cost than what you get for any excess sold back.

There are two personal wind generators around me that are 3-4 four years old. Neither are running. Both owners said the maintenance was more costly than any gain. The one guy says his is coming down soon.

Hopefully Adirondack case guy will see this post. He is in the business of installing them.

If you were thinking of selling your excess KW's to your utility, I sure would get a copy of there rules and regulations for doing so. Here in Arizona they do have to buy the power at wholesale rates but that don't tell you the full story.

Example is my electric bill was $211 last month. Even if I generated enough sparks to have a excess to sell, they only apply the excess to the following month. There's never a cash payment involved. BUT that excess would only be applied to the "cost of generation" portion of my bill. So for last month if I could over produced above my usage, I would of still had to pay about $80 in utility taxes.

Now lets assume that I kept this excess power generation up for 12mths straight and my accounting year has ended, I would have a excess of power that I can not get paid for nor used as the rules won't let me carry forward any power excess beyond one year. Yep I just gave away some free power to the utility company and we start back at zero.

So it just depends on how the law/rules are in your State.

I liked the vertical blade turbine design the best,"IF" there going to prove themselves in the field.

I know when I looked into personal wind energy the cost of making my own was higher than the utility companies charge.

Was a guy around here that had some wind turbines. He pulled them down because of the repair cost. Things were always breaking.
