Chevy truck and trailer lights.

I need to take a tractor to the show tomarrow and the lights wont work.I hooked up and one side with a new light worked, the other 30 years old was bad so i replace it.When i get it on both trun signals work so i try the clearance lights and eveything quits.I trace back to the truck and none of the posts in the truck coupler have any volts on them. This is a 2003 1500 with a factory wired coupler,so is there a fuse somewhere that has blowed and where is it? All the lights on the truck work.

As they say "check the owners manual". I know that it could be different but Fords have separate "Power distribution" boxes under the hood with fuses dedicated to trailer lights. I had a 1999 Expedition that whenever I hooked to the travel trailer, I could never get Rt. directional to work. Finally after 8 years I looked for the PDB, and found that the fuze was missing.

The manuel i got with the truck is for a differant year and nothing matches. The are 2 fuses that say left and right trailer, they are ok.

Ground is ok.If you run a wire from the battery neg,you get no volts on any post in the truck.Useing another battery all the lights on the trailer will light from the front plug.

Check that the trailer wiring has been connected at the underhood fuse/ relay center. Also each function for the trailer harness has its own fuse. I may have a wiring diagram for that truck. email if needed.

There are two fuse boxes on your truck. One is inside the cab. On the bottom lower side of the dash. There is another one out under the hood. This one has separate fuses in it for the factory trailer plugs. If you plug your trailer plug in with it being wet it will blow the fuses. Never had it be a problem on the older trucks but these newer ones do it. I shake the plug and blow it out every time I hook up.

Well i went without the trailer.I did get the rear plug to work on brakes and turn signals by pulling the fuses and putting back.Still no clearance light volts on the plug. I guess for around here thats all i need.
