It is used on and around the farm , The mower was bought in yr 2000 B&S engine 17hp 42cut ,I am trying to locate engine oil drain plug ,seems as though the book is lost and dont know when they did it last , I'm getting some info its at the back of the engine and under the deck where the blades spin ,any ideas or advice ,a plug with a square hole ?????????????.

i have an mtd also, a bit older though, but almost all of the oil drain plugs on the ones i have ever worked on are on the right side as you are sitting on the mower, at the base of the engine, should be above the frame too, just a plug is all it is, should be a square head on it unless some one added a pipe with a cap on it like they normally do to make it easier to change the oil. should be located between the two bolts on the side that hold the engine to the frame of the mower. look where the dipstick tube goes into block...should be a pipe plug in that fitting or if youre lucky,its already got a piece of pipe with a cap on it so you dont drain oil all over the deck.
 
Trace the oil dip stick/fill tube down to the bottom of the block and the drain plug most likely is right there where the tube goes in to the block. B/S has been using that set up now for well over a decade and all my B/S engines have it there and I have a lot of them as in at least 5 riders and 3 or 4 push mowers
 
Yep, it's a PITA. After I had my drain polugs found and removed, I put in a small NPT threaded pipe, with a valve on the end, and a hose cap. Now it's a pleasure to change oil.
 
I have 2 B&S, 20 hp and 22 hp both have a plastic cap and a quick drain fitting. Turn and pull on the fitting and out comes the oil. Uses about a 1/2 inch plastic hose you connect to the end of the fitting to take the oil away from the engine. This is located on the right side of the engine. No tools required.
