OK, i went to look at a used truck,[model doesn't matter], it has a g/vendor o/drive unit. took for ride, truck was impressive, while shifting from low to high, hearing a small clunk/ping of the d/shaft. my question, never used/had one, is that normal, was i/it shifting wrong, how do they shift, let off pedal a little like a 2-speed. info me on these units, before i decide to trade/buy, only if you have/had one please, no guessing. thanks bob

i have a gv unit in my silverado paid 2000.00 for it worth every penny. they are rated at 27,000 lbs.
the noise is normal and shifting is easy when you go to shift put pressure on the drive train by giving a slight amount of acceleration shift up or down moving switch wait a second let up on accelerator you'll hear a clunk and you are in gear
very rarely do i use it for split shifting as i do not use it a lot towing although it will handle it.
what i like about it is i use low range in town for better handling and when in the wide open i put it in high range get about 20 percent overdrive. the only change that im going to make is to the gear oil im going to put 90 wght gl-1 in it as apposed to the modern oil with additives in it i had heard something obscure about the additives prematurely wearing out the syncronizers i cannot point you to a source i cannot remember where i heard it. but just to play safe i'm gonna change it. hope this helps. al

bob one little thing i forgot to mention i have a US GEAR overdrive it is gear to gear a GEAR VENDOR is a clutch and hydraulic set up i do not know anything about that overdrive set up sorry for the mix up al
