I was outside Saturday when I heard a weard whining, groaning sound.I stepped to the front of my house and saw that my neighbor, up the road, was transporting his tractor to a local auction.
He had the front wheels of his JD tricycle tractor mounted in the bed if his pickup and was pulling it down the road at about 20mph :!:
The sale was about 12 miles up the road.

With the front in the air so the transmission is starved for lubrication, it'll be ready for the scrapper by the time he gets there!

That's what the whining and groaning was about. . .

I remember reading an article about that kind of thing in the Farm Show magazine as a kid. Seems it was an old Farmall that had snapped an axle. They loaded the front into the pickup bed and used a heavy pole as a sort of rescue litter to hold the broken side of the tractor off the ground. The pole ran from the truck bed, down under the axle housing, and dragged on the ground.

That is easy to do. You just jack the front end up and wedge a block into the pivot. Then let it back down you just have an offset tricycle. LOL

Years ago, the second year I was out of the service, money was real tight and I broke the right spindle on my JD 3020 wide front. I needed it to finish hay. I jacked it up and wedge a oak block in the pivot. I did take the other spindle clear off to give more clearance. I also slid the good side in all of the way to get it as close to center as I could. I used it that way for a month until I sold some cattle. I then had the money to buy a spindle.

Ding ding ding ding, we have a winner! Some tractors take different angle wedges, always handy to have a good saw, and some old locust block around, to cut the wedge from!

Ive seen a photo of 2 9n tractors on a short wheelbase ton and a half Chevy truck. The 9ns front ends were pointed straight up.
