Lube it up good...... NOT..... not one of my smarter moves..

Spray lube can be dangerous in the wrong hands........

Baler was working real good and I was so proud of it..Cleaned it, blew it all out (knotters), and lubed everything and sprayed the chains with chain lube after cleaning them. Covered everything and strapped the tarp in place and went to the mower, tedder, and rake. Got them done and remembered that I forgot to lube the knotters. Quick fix and I was happy.
FF to the other day and I baled some hay that had a lot of fine, dusty junk in it. About 10 bales and it quit tieing. Never had to thread it before, so seeing how the one side was I just copied it. Forgot a hole in the bottom and gave a good wrap around the knotter. Went a little farther and had a real mess.....

Neighbor kid has a kind of sixth sense and seems to show up when I have trouble. Rain coming so he ran and got another baler and finished up. Went to where my baler was parked yesterday to see everything clean, couple pieces of twine with real nice knotts and a note saying this is what things should look like and a little picture (drawn) of a spraycan and a big X over it....... Was gonna go thank him and his dad when his dad zooms up on his scooter and shows me how to thread the twine (after eating me up over the spray lube).

Those two guys are priceless........

I have JD balers. Any lube on the knotter brake is a real no-no. Any lube on the twine disk holder bad too. You need to be sparing with lube in the knotters. Just enough is the rule.

forgot to mention that I squirted that shiny half disc to keep it from rusting

Manual tells ya what to lube, not what NOT to lube.... No harm done and I's a little smarter now....................

Yup, back when we baled all those little idiot
cubes(10,000-30,000 per year) you grease the zerks
on the knotters one pump every 1000 bales. NO more
No less. And no extra grease or oil anywhere else
on the knotters. Keep the knotters out of the
weather when not in use.

We never had many problems other than a when new
ball of twine went thru. Then we learn to roll the
connecting knot between your hands (similar to
rolling a stick to start a fire) and put just a
little grease on the ball connecting knot. That eliminated most of the problems with the splice
knots as well.

Don't you know they had fun fixing your baler and then drawing pictures for emphasis. !! 'Sorta like....."Baler maintenance for Dummies".

Knotters a lot of time one pump is way too much. Watch and if grease starts showing at a quarter or third of a pump stop.

you know they are just stittng on the porch just listing for you to start something up so they can make fun of the "silly 'mercan"

You prolly say that as a joke but they see everything I do where my tractor/equipment is parked from their porch.....

You need to pay more attention to what is posted on this forum. The other day we were advised that "WD-40" will fix anything. Now get rid of whatever spray lub you use and replace it with the real thing. Our neighbor gave his son-in-law the nick name "Dumber".
