Timing Mag Wisconsin TJD 2 cyl

Got one of these in a Howard Gem rototiller. Previous owner pulled the mag for a no spark problem, couldn't get spark (points set to about .060!) and sold it to me with mag removed.

I got it close enough to run, but would like to get it right. I keep seeing references to lining the fin on the flywheel marked with an "X" with a mark somwhere, but can't find the other mark. I see references stating that you have to remove the flywheel shroud, but you also apparently have to remove the flywheel to get it off. Can someone tell me where the other mark is located?

Can't wait to get it in the garden. This thing is the Steiger Tiger of tillers! :D

Check out the Wisconsin site. Wether it'll have what you need or not I don' know, but they do have alot of info about pretty much every engine they ever made.

On a 2 cyl, that mark is straight up above the flywheel. There is a tooth on the mag gear with an x on it too. That mark is close to the bottom of the hole with the pipe plug out at tdc.On the pulley side the keyway is up at TDC. When you turn it over slow, the impulse should snap at TDC.

I'll try to scan the instructions from my operators manual. Mine is a TFD, but the procedure ought to be the same.
Good Luck and God Bless

All Wisconsin 2 cylinders time the same. There are
good photos and directions in an owners manual,
or an owners and parts manual!
On most Wis. 2 cyls. the pistons go up and down
togather. On TJD they don't, so make sure that
you're at "Top Dead Center" on #1, when timing!

Here's a copy of the page.

Thanks for all the replies...got it on and running ok, I guess. But timing is running late, when checked with a light...Is the only way to adjust it to change the mesh of the gears? don't see how I can turn the mag when the top hole is not slotted like the bottom one is.

Also, the carbon tip that the rotor rides against is broken off and rough...any idea where I could find one of them? Not too keed on spending $96 for a new mag cap!
