Well been doing a turn up on this GMC S-15 with the 4.3 V-6 and the plugs where AC-Delco plugs. The cap says right on top Delco Remy and boy does it look bad as does the rotor. Plug wires also say AC-Delco on them so makes me think this thing has never had a tune up and it has 258.XXX miles on it. So how likely is it that these parts where what came on it when new???

Boy that seems like a long time. Dad went 150000 easy driving miles with is plymouth voyager with the factory plugs but they were about 20000 miles past due when they were replqced. Jim

Rich, they could be original and poor maintenance or someone could have been particular and only used OEM parts to service as they should.

I have a Toyota pu that went 100,000 on the plugs and wires. I only changed them because I replaced the valve cover gaskets.

Its not very likely that stuff would last 258,000 miles.Probably was replaced several times. They might just have put back on what was original, maybe even went to Chevrolet to get the parts.Maybe had Chevy mechanics work on it.It would probably be a miracle if that stuff lasted 100,000 miles before at least the wires were fried. It would have run so bad by then they had to do something.

One of my friends had a GM with 230K on the plugs. He was afraid after that long they were seized. The parts could be original. The newer ignition systems are much more tolerant of plugs and wires than the older ones.

Ya these plugs where not easy to pull out. Some of them you got that sort of jump a bit then sort of stop. Always hate it when they do that because your almost sure one will brake off and then your in real trouble but all of them came out. Did apply grease to the treads of the new one just to be on the safe side

I'm gonna say wires HAVE BEEN replaced.

My 89 S-10, 90 full size, grandpa's 95 full size (all with 4.3's ) and I believe my 2005 with the 4.3 ALL said PACKARD on wires from the factory (as well as a lot of others I have worked on)

I can't say they all were packard wires from factory, but to the best I recall every one I have worked on were.

I was told by my parts guy that if the plug wires said delco and where numbered they where factory wires and they have all of that on them. Either way figure it will not hurt to replace them either way since every thing else I have found says lack of maintenance. Also will be doing the transmission filter just to be sure

They could be the originals. My Dad is a mechanical engineer but his personal vehicles never receive any maintenance. He will change the oil maybe once or twice each year. His current pickup is ten years old with 189,000 miles on it. It never has had the plugs or wires replaced. He just runs them until they drop and fixes them up if it is a simple repair. If it is major, he just goes and gets another 3-4 year old vehicle and drives it to death. I am not that way but he does not spend much money on up keep and seems to get by.

My big thing is this will be the sons main ride till we get his custom truck done so I want it to run ok for him and at least get fair MPG. Guy I got it from said it got poor MPG so I figured it needed a tune up and yep it sure did

Original plug wires would probably be Packard, not AC-Delco. I don't believe platinum plugs were used in 1990, so it's unlikely they are original. Distributor cap and rotor are quite possibly original.
