Saw it on Mapquest today - Grew up (kinda) in Emden, IL and didn't know it existed (near Shelby/Marion County, MO line)
Had 2 late uncles (Elmer and Clarence) as well as a cousin (Leonard)that have towns named the same. Still have a cousin around Monroe City - but didn't see a town named after him!

PS: Never have seen MY town

Yep, as of today they still have a post office. Emden, Missouri, zip code 63439. Population 199. Main streets; Highway Z and 168. Located about 50 miles Northwest of Hannibal. It is in Shelby County and at 5:54PM it was Fair and 84 degrees.

Thanks for the shout.
20 years ago, Emden, IL (500+/-) had Chevy, Ford and Chyrsler dealerships, grocery store, 2 bar/restaurants, 2 feed stores, etc. - now gone, but the bank and post office.

35/45 years ago, I made good money detaselling, walking beans, shelling corn AND getting to bale hay or straw, plow, cultivate, hual corn, etc.

35 years ago, I moved to PeoRia, Il and the folks went to a retirement village 3 years ago. Still like to visit where I "growed up".

But would still like 4020 PS

I bought a place just south of Monroe City in April when I moved back to the states from Campeche, Mexico and drove by the Emden road (Z) on the way to Macon to buy a bush hog a couple of weeks ago. Wife said there is a Mennonite furniture factory around Emden and I might take an afternoon drive there when I get back to Missouri (I'm working in Trinidad, West Indies now, 28 days on, 28 days off).

Oh, by the way, there is a Jimtown Hollow across the river in Pike county, IL. between New Canton and Atlas.

German Raider. a PITA during WW1. sunk off Cocus Islands in November 1914 by Australian Navy "SYDNEY".

Yes Kruser i remember well when Emden was booming. The last 2 pickups we bought , when we were in the fertilizer business came from there. One from Heinikins, and one from Finks.

When I was growing up in Emden (IL) my best grade school friend's dad and grandfather owned the Chevy dealership (Finks), my cousins owned the Ford dealership (Heineken's), and the Chrysler dealership (Marten Motors) was owned by the father of another classmate friend. We used to have some good car wars. Too bad many of these small towns dry up. I own two rental houses in Emden, and have family there, but it's not what it used to be.
