I have a chance to buy a new, never used, not rusted 20 rod roll of RedBrand fence. It is 9 3/4 gauge/ 48"high. The guy say"s to make an offer. He has had the roll for about 5-8 years. I"ve checked with the suppliers around my area, but none of them deal with the heavier gauge. They only have 12 and 14 gauge wire. Any ideas as to what its worth?
Thanks, Brian

Determine what a roll of 12 (??) weighs in order to get a price per pound. Get weight of the roll you are looking at. That will give you a starting price to negotiate up/down.

We need more info. What type of knots; pullout spacing; is the filler wire the same as the top and bottom.

I "THINK" the problem you are having is you are asking for just normal run Red Brand wire with the Monarch Knot that most stores carry. I did not see any of this type of wire in the gauge you have.

Red Brand makes plenty of differant types of wire. I did see a 9.75 gauge fence with Cross Lock Knots and 16 inch pullout spacing. Item # 78200. Rural King has it special order shipped direct from the factory for $316.99 plus shipping and weighs 203 lbs.

Download this pdf file from Red Brand and find your fence.

Then look it up by Resource # on Rural King dot com.

(quoted from post at 20:33:49 08/24/11) Both the 12ga and 9ga rolls weigh about the same. 192 vrs 203 lbs and the 9 gauge wire cost over twice as much as the 12ga.
In big gauge wire like this you are buying the knots.
This is why it is a special order item.

Thanks John. I checked out the roll of wire again and it is the 9 3/4 ga. for the filler and top & bottom wire with 16" pullout, & 48" high, 20 rod roll with crosslock knots. So now I will make him an offer and go from there. That Red Brand site has lots of useful info. 34 years ago when the wifes father bought the place, the railroad put up a new fence for him along the track side, and it still looks good to this day. They used this wire. At the same time we put up some fence on the other side for the cattle and this is what I've got to change as its all rusted and broken. It's a good thing I don't have any MAD cows, just HAPPY cows as my grandkids say, because if it wasn't for the electric fence as a deterent they would be in the neighbours field.
Thankyou everbody for the info and feed back. Brian
