Feelin' for you Texans

I've been working in La. this week. My ride over from Florida I passed dozens of trucks west-bound on I-10 loaded with hay. The local news near Baton Rouge has been talking about local farmers donating hay, because round bales are getting close to $100 in Texas. I understand supply and demand, but these are fellow farmers in dire straits! All the while, I'm mowing miles and miles of 16" bahia and bermuda on a gas pipeline that is just going to waste. Wish there was some way to bale it and help yall out, but there's too many rules. Y'all hang in there. My .02

its way passt $100. a bale...i been feeding grain for a month already...cheaper than buying hay and easier to find...i gave up even looking 2 weeks ago when i got quoted $115. on a 4x4 bale of un named grass + shipping.

Round bales around San Antonio are pushing 125 bucks. Seen 40 to 50 pound square bales for 11 dollars each! Sad that some can't wait to feed on anothers grievance around here. Alot of people are selling off their cattle.

Yep the capitalist system is great, we had a cyclone up north which wiped out the banana plantations. Before, they sold for around 2.99 kg. After, they went to 14.99 but the supply came from areas which were not affected . So when nature gives you a kick in the Guts, your fellow man follows up and gives you another one. Some would call it supply and demand.

Guys, #1 Horse quality Coastal Bermuda Grass hay is bouncing off of $150 a roll here in South Central Texas. Austin/Georgetown/Lampasas areas. Saw 2 Semi,s of what looked like just cut and baled, 4x4x8 alfalfa, Roll into Lampasas,Tx this AM. Lord only knows what that brought?????

you wouldn't be suggesting that honest farmers are gouging their brother man wouldya????????????

I hope things turn around for you folks quick...........Also hope folks are paying attention to who is the crooks and don't buy from them again when things get back to normal...

Good Luck.

Wow, I don`t know whether to be happy that hay is worth so much up here, sad that we pay so much more than the rest of the world for so many things, or feel sorry for those who are not used to paying such high prices. Here in Alaska $10 is a good going price for timothy or brome 50# squares, actually on the lower end of the price range, we are getting $10 in the barn for lesser quality hay from old fields we are opening back up, our neighbor is getting $11 a bale in the field of better stuff, up to $17 a bale at feed stores. I have seen 110# compressed bales of alfalfa go for $36 a bale.

Sorry, didn`t mean to rain on anyones parade or imply that you are not all having a hard year, just had to throw that in.

That's like after a hurricane, plywood skyrockets all over the US for the couple thousand sheets used in that area.

Another sad part is how high the freight is to get hay hauled into Texas from out of state. I've got a load coming from Missouri that the freight company keeps raising the price. Right now just the freight is $42 per 4X5 ft bale and this on a back haul. If I sent a truck from here it would be $62 per bale.

well i saw one ad for 3x3x8 alfalfa for $250 in SA...hope the price gougin b@$turds get a front row seat in he!!

Do you folks have any alternatives??? The one year we were short on hay, I fed soaked beat pulp and straw. Talking about 8 horses tho.

luckily i got brush on the ranch and cows eating it for roughage, plus 32% protein liquid feed, and a beef grower bagged mix from local mill...they havent lost any weight but winter aint even close here yet...hoping we get some moisture so i can plant winter mix of wheat, oats and rye.
