another piston/ cylinder question

How can I shorten this deary saga? Bought a junked MF3165, with the Perkins 212 gas engine. It had a bad case of hydrolock and then left to seize the rest. Sleeves didn't hone out as nice as you'd like to see them. So in the fight to remove them, all pistons are basicly shot. NO kits with pistons anywhere for this. Worthington said their kits did, but don't. Found a matching connecting rod on Ebay. So I've got rings and sleeves,etc... but it was such a fight to get the pistons out, I can't immagine those sleeves budging a bit. I am getting some used pistons from fawcett's in Ontario, have no idea what they will mike to, but I would feel better if I was using the 3 (!) new sleeves Worthington sent. But gettting dry sleeves out may be a trick someone one here knows... sorry for the length, and thanks in advance!

Most instances I've known of dry sleeves not coming out result in having to have them machined out until they are thin enough to peel the remainder out. As far as finding sleeves give Clevites site a look and see if they might have what you need.

Someone on here might chime in with a better idea, but I've heard that you weld a bead down each cylinder and they will come out quite easily. The weld shrinks them just enought to get them loose. I've never done it myself because mine have all been wet sleeves so far, but I've talked to other guys that did and had good luck.

ell uncle, now that you heard it from some one eles, do you still think Im nuts

Just like Irv said! Weld a bead down the inside diameter, about an inch from the top and bottom, making sure not to penetrate the sleeve. Otherwise you run the chance of welding the sleeve to the block. After welding the bead a good long punch and a swift blow with a sledge hammer and out she"ll come.

To tell the truth... I forgot you told me that! Hey it must have been 2-3 weeks ago. I can't remember that far! I was more on NC's train of thought, grinding or cutting the old one's out. good thing one is OK, only got 3 new ones... but they might not match the pistons from Fawcett's, so I will wait till everything is laid out on the table... what if you welded a bar in there- and it still didn't come out? How bad would things be then? Guess that's why it slipped my mind so fast!

Yes, you are right. They had to be honed once years ago, and either honed again now, or beaten, cut, heat shrunk or milled out, replaced, and the new ones honed... so no matter how you slice it, I will be honing my little heart out.... I am just looking for an option to remove the old sleeves without ruining them, just incase I MUST use the old ones again-or the boogers 'just don't come out'! Too bad they weren't wet sleeves, we wouldn't be wasting time talking about it....
