A use for the old oil???

I have some old 2 cycle oil setting on the shelve in the shop. It's been there so long I have no idea where it came from.

Yesterday I was looking for some oil to oil the roller chains on the combine. Saw this stuff and decided to give it a try.

Is 2 cycle motor oil a good lubricator for roller chains???

If it is unopened - I would use it as intended.
If your worried about you can just use it up in an oil can.

I would use it up in a hand sprayer mixed with diesel fuel to protect unpainted metal on the combine during the winter.

Surely something on that 2366 is still metal instead of poly??

I tried chain oil from Schaeffers this year. So far I really like it, has a ball in the can to shake. Looks like it has lots of graphite.

Hope your harvest is going well, I'm working in 10 percent beans now. They are so dusty you have to stop unloading to see how full the truck is. Also popping out like crazy, not just single beans but whole pods flying.

IA Gary I use it on the chain coupler between the engine and tranny on the 1800 Oliver. Stays on good.

Not really a good lubricant Gary. Two cycle oil is 85% jet fuel (diesel) and the rest is base oil. Would work well for rust protection but do little for lubrication.

Son-in-law's brother is a forrester. Says his employer buys bar oil from cheapest source. Often he says they can tell that much of the oil is filtered recycled oils from service stations. Says he really hates it when there is a large amount of auto transmission fluid mixed in.
