looking at purchaseing a utility quad for around our small horses farm. found what I belive to be a good deal on a 2008 yamaha 700. a older farmer not far from me just traded it in on a new one.has anyone had any experence with yamaha

I've got a chinese (Jianshe) that is a rebadged Yamaha Beartracker...
250cc 2wd and just about bulletproof..I pull a trailer with as many as 30 bales of hay (1500 pounds+/- total weight), chain harrow the pastures, and just zoom around on it checking horses...... 700cc would be a serious overkill for me but one with 4wd would be nice in some cases......
Think you may like whatever you get, especially if you have plenty of chores to do.....
Something that is as handy as the quad itself is a pioneer tool set from a HMMWV (or just get the rack and fill it yourself) with a shovel, mattock, and axe. Portable so you can just strap it on and go..... PVC pipe and zipties make nice necky modifications too

Have fun.

Sorry...No experience with them. Neighbor had one (not a yamaha) that he got to replace a quad then got another quad and sold the UTV after a couple of months because the quad was easier for him to get on and off of (kind of a big&tall guy).... The vehicle itself was nice though and his boy put a 3PH on it and made a PTO setup to bolt in the bed to run a tedder and rake.

You will like it! Yamaha builds good machines. There are bigger displacement engines out there but that 700 has lots of power.
Sounds like you are refering to a Ute or UTV instead of a quad or ATV. Do you sit on it or in it? You sit in a UTV and on an ATV is how I was told to identify them.
Either way you will wonder how you ever got along without it in a couple months!

We bouth two old suzuki sameriz for 500 apiece one for fenceing the other for running around on farm cheap and does any thing a atv utility will do.

We have a Kawasaki Mule 610 (4wd). Bought it 2 years ago new.

Not a sports car, but that thing gets used a ton. Towing, hauling and just moving people on our little 10 acres,,,, we would be lost without it.

If it's a Rhino ,,beware . Lots of tipping , think there is a lawsuit . But common sense most likely lack of to blame . I have an older 6x4 GatorI like, no four wheel drive, rear axles only ,,but gets around great , and HAULS LOTS .

Not in a utility vehicle, but I have an old Moto 4 quad. No idea how old it is,probably late 80s,early 90s. Never had a problem til last week. Broke a rocker arm in it and found out the tensioner on the timing chain was bad. Surprisingly, the parts were still available for the old relic from the Yamaha dealer. Didn't say cheap, but available. Cost me $168 for the whole works. On second thought, probably would have been at least 3 times that if it had been a new Deere.

Have a kawasaki 360 4x4, use it to plow the drive way in the winter, and pull a drag when its dry enough to level the drive way. The winch makes a great fence wire tensionr, have a box on the front for the tools and nails. Also makes it a lot easier/quicker going to look for the horses.

On any of them make sure you don't go driving around with your knee hanging to the outside as it can get hit by what you are driving by. This is why most newer ones have some kind of door.

Rhinos were recalled twice, once to add doors and grab handles and once to remove the rear sway bar and add 2 inch wheel spacers on each side. IMHO you really have to drive like an idiot to roll one.

Buy it you won't regret it. I bought a 450 a few years ago thinking I would try it and if I didn't like it I could make a few bucks on it. It's got the dump box, a snowplow with an electric winch to lift it, hard top, full lexan windscreen and a soft plastic rear screen. I love it! Snowplowing is a blast and at 1400 lbs it pushes snow like a small jeep unlike sport utility quads. Hauling wood, small amounts of dirt and gravel, wood mulch, etc. is all quite enjoyable with the Rhino. PLUS Wisconsin just recently opened up several ATV trail corridors to side-by sides so I'm goin' ridin'!

An EMT up here rolled a Rhino while transporting an injured MX rider with a broken collarbone. You can't shift your weight when cornering in a side by side like you can on a quad. As far as trail riding with a Rhino type vehicle, you have to be especially careful because they will roll a lot easier than other vehicles. All it takes is a split second distraction and you can be on your side.
