Lubrication of otherwise identical single wt vs muli oil

Here are some tests ran on two stroke diesels with straight vs. multi-weight oil.

I'm surprised at the difference, no wonder Detroit Diesel insisted on straight weight low ash oil.
Is it because when the multi-weight additives are not in straight weight oil. There is more lube oil and lube additives to actually lubricate.
I went out and bought straight CF-2 30wt Amsoil instead of 15W-40 Amsoil CF-2 for my tractor's 2-53 after seeing those results.

Pardon, what did you say ? Wait till I shut her down and get the ear muffs off and ear plugs out.
Actually this one isn't too bad. The real oval muffler from Deere make the exhaust quieter than the rest of the engine noise.
One can hear the blower and combustion knock sound through the block/head over the sound of the exhaust.
I have no clue as to why anybody installs those little bitty round mufflers on a 435 ?

Excellent performance assesement. I have worked with lube oil formulations for years now and the add packs are indeed very different in performance. I gained a lot of my info because I ran the API yearly audit program. We gathered and tested lube oil samples from around the world. That gave me access to performance info that the average user never sees.

It was and still is an interesting machine. I remember seeing, and hearing, the first one in the fall of 1959?? It was parked right out on the street in front of the dealer 1/2 block off Main Street. They ran it up full throttle. My dad and I and a couple of neighbors had gone in to see it.

Same reason I put Smittys on my hotrod- Ya wanna HEAR 'em! The noise is part of the fun, for many.

I consider the Detroit equipped tractors to be the "hot rods" of the tractor world. Anyone know of anyone actually using one ONLY for farming these days?
