Okay Folks; Off Topic: Let's Talk Turkey!

Situation is: Groovy Daughter and great Son in law just had 1st grandbaby 6 weeks ago. They are 4.5 hours away and rather than tempting fate travelling with the nonsleeping little guy, they are going to our sister in law's, 1 hour away from them. Makes sense on paper but still "applies a vacuum " a little bit. (I had to keep it Tractor related) We're handling my small part of the local family. So, since this is our first Thanksgiving without the whole, big, and lovingly disfunctional crowd (which is my FAVORITE part of my life!!!); what's your favorite, neat, special FOOD, GOODIE, ETC., for the festivities? Please, no Turkey souffles baked in Farmall pistons, that would to far over the edge!

Homemade egg noodles cooked in broth from the turkey. They"re sort of like a flat dumpling. My favorite part of the meal.

I always do the carving of the turkey, so I get the "oysters". Two pieces of meat on the back, in indentations on both sides of the back- meat has a texture and flavor that is incomparable.

Love the dressing, a little dark meat, and gravy, for the next week or so. A meal in itself.

Dessert? Used to be my sister's pecan pie, but now its my daughter's pecan pie. Time marches on!

Oyster dressing, which I make is my favorite food of the meal. but it is all outstanding. Having all the kids and grandkids and nephew and his family for three days is the best thing and most important. Second best is my three sons, two grandsons and I haul enough wood to the house to last until February. Takes all day and makes a huge hole in the woodpile. Then when it's all over Connie and I look at each other and wonder "what did we do to deserve all this?".
Happy Thanksgiving,
Paul

Dave,

My wife makes a cranberry relish with whole cranberries that she grinds, adds some orange peel, marshmallows, walnuts, and some sugar.

I don't need anything else on the table to make a Thanksgiving feast.

I have an insatiable sweet tooth-SO-it would have to be my wife's homemade cherry pie! OK, she uses bought cherry pie filling, but the crust is home made! The good thing is, I always have room for dessert!

Soak the turkey in brine for 16-24 hours, roast it on the Weber, serve with cranberries, mashed potatoes & gravy, yams, crescent rolls, pumpkin pie and a magnum of Chandon champagne.

Dessert, hands down. Pies are best, especially apple, pumpkin and just about any berry pie.

I also really like the stuffing and mashed potatoes with giblet gravy. My mother used to make a wonderful cole slaw. I never did get the recipe, though I watched her make it many times when I was a kid. My daughter and I sort of used my recollections and our combined taste buds to cobble together a reasonable facsimile.

My favorite part is sitting around afterward and realizing that this is the beginning of the holiday season and Christmas is right around the corner. December has been a very slow month for me for several years, so we make the most of it as a family.

My SIL is not a very good cook and travels from out of town each year. So we all started to dodge her dishes. she started bringing cherry pies made from cherries they picked and put up. Not real pretty but verrry tasty. but, I hate to say it, but I almost like a cold turkey sandwich(dark meat only) the day after more than the hot meal on Thursday.

Awhile back, my bro moved back to the area after 20 years. He's a hunter, I fish. That Thanksgiving we decided to have a "wild" day. We cooked pheasant, rabbit, squirel, venison, walleye and salmon. That was 15 years ago, remember it like yesterday.

Thanks for the memories....don t. ....

I like all of the fixings, the noodles like another poter brought up the taters and drippings gravy, but one of our ewest additions is crunchy sweet potatoe bake with a big spoonfull of coolwhip to melt in cnt
