Shepard diesel

A fellow I know had me help refurbish a shepard SD30 Tractor a couple of years ago,Now he has found a SD4 to bring home and refurbish.any one here had any thing to do with one of these tractors? I think they are kinda neat, reminds me of the old UC Allis chalmers by looks. the SD3 is 3 Cyl. and he says the SD4 is 4 cyl. Both diesel. He wants to get the full range of this companies models SD 1-2-3-4 and a Farmall with a repower he called it. Don't know the model Farmall that was repowered with the Shepard engine..So now he has the 3 and the 4.The SD4 he is going to pick up is in Oregon some where.

Shepard diesel targeted the Farmall M as a recipient of the diesel engine, and if I remeber correctly, the Shepard 3 cylinder was the engine used. I've seen a couple of the conversions at shows, I've also talked with Farmers that remember those conversions, and most of them agree that doing the conversion was the quickest way they ever saw to turn a powerhouse Farmall M into a Farmall H.

I agree with rusty. If you search for old posts you will find some by brenda and she goes into some detail about all the machine work needed to use gm parts for the ones you can't get.

Have a friend that has 1 Sd2,2 SD3s, 1 SD4 Dont think there is but 1 or 2 known SD1s. He has a SD1 stationary engine tho!!

Found this Farmall conversion at the S.C.R.A.P. show in Gibsonburg, OH this year. The owner did a nice job restoring it and had it running like a top.

The R.H. Sheppard company was still in business as of 2008. (That's the date on their website). They just picked a bad time to manufacture tractors due to all the competition and had problems establishing a dealer base. Google "Sheppard diesel" Their website tells about the tractors as well as the history of the company.

There were only about 1943 Sheppard tractors made. The bigger SD-4 was reported to have had rear end problems. I remember when they advertised a lot in farm magazines but I've never seen one.
