glass scratches

Hi Guys.
I have been coming on here for 9 years asking for help after I brought two Farmall H tractors in pieces, they both run and I use them both thanks to you guys for all the help you gave me. I am now redoing a 1943 jeep, is there anything I can use to take out minor scratches off the windshield. Thanks guys.
Ken.

youll laugh but it does work. Use some good rubbing compound and a little wax. wont get real deep scrathes but will get some smaller ones out. dont use a real gritty compound tho. It worked pretty good for me. I had to do it a few times tho.

There are "polishing kits" for the clear headlamp lenses...and they work very well according to my SIL. You might wanna see if that would work on glass.

Keep us posted...this might very well be a great tip to file away.

Do you guys think any of this would work on what I think is a sand dammaged windshield in a 98 Chrysler product van?

The problem with sand is that it usually leaves pitts in glass more than a scratch. It would be worth a shot. Steel wool and the rubbing compound are a lot cheaper than buyin a new windshield. If it doesnt work your mostly just outa a little time and effort.

Rain X will fix the windshield..the silicon in it fills the pits and the windshield is clearer and the pits don't show..used some on an old truck and it did a good job,I use Rain X on most of our vehicles, like it and what it does.

I'll second the Rain-X idea. It's not a cure-all but for a small amount of effort it does help, especially for driving at night.

The only "Best" way is to replace the glass...

We replaced the glass windshields in the Kenworths at about 300,000 miles..
That Desert sand is hard on glass...!!

Ron..

Hydrofluoric acid will enable you to scrub the scratches right off. It won't do you much good though even if you could find a place to buy it, the stuff is so bad that it would kill you.
