OT Camry rear wheel bearings EASY...

Shop asked over $400 to change both rear wheel bearings.
Camry has only 155K on it but left rear bearing was shot and right one was just starting to grumble too.

Remove wheel, remove drum, 4 bolts hub assembly comes off with out removing brakes.
Clean off base area, install new o ring.
bolt on assembly. Drum, Wheel Done.
Both sides took less then 1 hr.

Parts where $60 on amazon(yes China made) but being this particular Camry probably will only make another 100K I took the cheap route.
Besides the last time I spent the extra $ for American Brand rotors all I got were reboxed China made rotors! Paid extra 10 bucks a piece for new better box. @#Q$%

The 4th generation Camry's 97-2001, 4 cylinder models are one of the easiest cars to fix I have ever had. Run good, smooth quiet and if you are lite on the pedal you can get 35mpg on the hwy at 65-70 mph.

Front wheel bearing on an 05 model has to be pressed out and pressed in. Over $300 for one side. One side didn't stop roar, took car to local guy, cost $180 for the other side.

I just did a bunch of work on a 98 4 cyl Camry, and would be happy to never do it again. I'm very thankful for quality hardware that doesn't break, but it's a tight car to work on. That said, atleast I'm not fixing it every 2 weeks. Car is the most reliable car ever. Aiming to get 500,000km out of it. Currently at 361,000 Front wheel bearing was $85, made in USA by Moog + $30 to press out and back in. Some suspension parts are only available from Toyota and are around 275 each. There's 6 of them. I was luckily able to find the two I needed after ALOT of searching, for $117 each.

Bet you had to change the timing belt didn't you?

I did one on my '97 Camry and have the belt kit with water pump, idle and tension pulleys sitting on the shelf.

Agree, that is tight job to do.

Changed all the struts but "cheated" and used Monroe quick struts. Too much a PITA to compress springs and all the spring mounts were shot anyway.

Looks like my oil pump is leaking too.

This one has 156K miles on it, got it with 119K but was not well taken car of.

Last one I had got it with 143K and sold it with 256K.

The belt got changed at 278,000 km. Garage did it though. The belt was fine but the water pump seized and took the belt. The garage didn't change the oil seal and it went out 2 years later and had to do it all over again. Also did the rear struts.
