O/T GMC Jimmy question freeze plug

Boy drove home with it from church today and was saying it was running hot and green stuff was coming out of the engine. So any how let it cool and went ahead and replaced the thermostat and heat sensor since it had been acting funny any how. Well went to fill it back up with coolant and found that the drivers side freeze plug has gone AWOL some how. 4.3 V-6 engine in a S-15 1993. So the question is how in the heck do you get to that area short of pulling the engine.
Thanks

they make a compression freeze plug that you can put in and it tightens with a wrench--two washers with rubber inbetween and a bolt in the middle. replace when time allows or the motor has to be pulled for other reasons.

Can ya get at it by pulling the tire then the splash-flap on the inner skirt?

If you pull those plastic rivet heads straight up, it will allow the whole rivet to come out.

Check with local auto parts store for the ones made from neophrene. Easy to tighten with a wrench. Hal

Ya that is the type I use any more but where this one is I can not get my hand in to where it is. The boy has a smaller hand so he tried the one I had on hand but was to small but we now have others but still not sure we will be able to get a wrench to it to tighten it up

Maybe a dumb remark Old,but how do you even know it is missing or just not eat out and still in there?I have never seen one "come out"just eat(corrode) away and start leaking.

We can with the use of a flashlight see up in there and yep it is not there at all. I have never seen one do that other then from freezing but I know that did not happen to this since I know it had good antifreeze in it but figure it was leaking some and when the boy drove it home from church he got it hot enough that the hot/boiling coolant blew it out
