We have a 10 year old rear projection big screen t.v. You know, one of them that are as big as a pickup box. Anyway, about 5 years ago it got like a double picture on it. So we had it taken in and spent a fortune getting it fixed. Delivery kid said this thing is an antique and they don't even make them anymore. Flash forward to this a.m. Wife turned it on and it had the double picture for a couple minutes and then snapped out of it. Turned it on for American Idle this evening and it did it again. After a few minutes it worked good. I can see the writing on the wall. I will not put anymore $$ into this thing so when it shells out, what kind should I get. Keep in mind I have not shopped for a t.v. for 10 years so I have no idea what's out there. Please keep the terminology simple and in lay mans terms so I know what you are talking about.Oh and we have a direct-tv satellite dish out here on the farm if that makes a difference.

Just go to the big box and get a flatscreen. I mounted mine on the wall, it takes up a lot less space that way.

Mine was the same age and had the same problem. I
gave it away and got a 55" LCD and hung it on the
wall. I have a great picture now. I don't know why,
but the new 55" screen appears smaller than the old
52" for some reason. Salesman told me it would.

I've got 2 Panasonic plasma's. One 42 inch and one 46 inch. The 42 I've had since 2006 and is the reason I bought the 46 this year. They've been great TV's so far and have been used a lot(wife spent a lot time at the house for awhile). The plasma's are a little power hungry, but you can put them on a power-strip and just turn them off when not watching(yes they draw a little when off). Big advantage right now is they are cheap. The last one we bought was just about $600, 1080p, top notch picture quality.

flying belgian,
I have an old Attache still works good, but I was looking when at the computer store.

I don't know what it's called but it will be a MUST when I have to get a new one, it's some gizmo in the TV you can adjust the loud sounds down, so the commercials don't blast you and some movie sound effects are just unreal.

My 60 died last Jan. and I bought a 52 LCD at Wally World for around $400.00 on close out. The new one sets on a table and the old one took up most of the dumpster when I got rid of it.

had a vizio 46 LCD, some low life broke in house and stole, liked it real well, went back and bought vizio LED, man is that cool, literally, hold you hand over top and very little heat compared to LCD and plasma, supposed to use 60% less energy, dont know about that but nice tv,

If the old one was standard screen and the new is wide screen it will be smaller if the same size. Being measured diagonally the height is less with wider width on wide screen. Hope that makes sense

Try getting rid of your TV completely.
You and your family will be happier, smarter, more creative and more blessed with out it.

Samsung LED

best on the market right now, the picture with DirectTVHD will be like nothing you have ever seen before.

If you do NOT have the HD signal on the dish then go to any discount store and buy any LCD TV and you will be fine.

Stay away from Plasma, they use a bunch more power and aren't quite as crisp of a picture

Going on seventeen years without TV at our house. Can't stand the crap that's on there now if I happen to see it somewhere. I'd rather look out the window.

LED.. The Way to Go!... As they are so Much Crisper, and run Cooler...Just FEEL of the Screens is proof enough!Back around Christmas, I was in Wmart at the Tv's and it felt like a Heater back there with all the Plasma and LCD's, But the've about gotten rid of them... Now it's mostly Led's KF4LKU Larry

Like anything else, you can spend as much as you want, but the Vizio brand LCD units they sell at Walmart are good. Make sure it is 1080p, not 1080i or 720p and you will be fine. Most of them now are 1080p, but there are still some 720p models around.
