Colorless Antifreeze??

Ok, had a tractor with red antifreeze, then one with blue antifreeze, of course the green and orange and pink; but went to test the stuff in a 2003 McCormick and it was clear - like water. First thought I had better drain & refill but my tester said good to -35. Anyone ever hear of clear antifreeze?

got some over here off ebay... Said german army surplus..... first thing I thought was some smartass took the stuff and filled the jugs with water

Since there are so many colors, I would think the stuff is basically clear and the color is added. Remember when most gasoline was red? Except for Blue Sunoco and Amoco premium which was basically clear.

I just get my anti freeze from the spring.
The water running from the spring never freezes, so I guess it will be good cheap antifreeze.

I have seen that before and its nerve racking to use it. It seems to be the cheap stuff from walmart, the color is not stong to begin with and its hard to see after a few years.I had 5 gallons here in the shop without heat and the temp went to 10 and it did not freeze.Tested safe to 0.

ran into it years ago it was in a flextrac most likely filled in canada ,though the same thing plain water until the tester showed otherwise ,still wasn't quiet convinced until i smelled it and rubbed some between my fingers had the same odor and slimy feel did freeze that winter

shadetree is correct,,had a job where one stop was picking up anti-freeze and window-washer fluid, talking to the plant worker , stated that anti-freeze is clear, different companies have their own [dye for better word] color added for their brand..

We use antifreeze at work for the big cooling towers to stop them from freezing in winter. It comes in 55 gallon drums and as clear as water.

Food grade anti-freeze, is polyethylene glycol.
food processing plants use it..if a pipe leaks
and a drop gets in/on the food it won't hurt
you, and they don't have to throw the whole batch
away. I've seen it used in chillers in cheese
plants, breweries, vegetable canning plants.
It's water clear.

Barrel of methanol we got at the Ford garage was clear.A powdered dye pak turned it purple. It sold for 25 cents a quart. Many cars still used methanol in the 50s.
