Food dehydrator

We got a food dehydrator. Any of you guys or gals have experience/advice you could pass along?

I hope you got one with its own heater built in.
My wife bought me one once without a heater, and you were supposed to cook jerky, etc., before you put it in the dehydrator. That was baloney.

I bought one that looked similar with a heater in it and hid the one she gave me. She never figured it out.

All I've used mine for is jerky. It heats to 160 degrees and takes about 7 hours for a batch of jerky.

That's the sum total of my knowledge of dehydrators.

the more you use it the better you will like it we like the different dried peppers also tomatoes and i like the jerky.

Have two, the older one has a motor in the bottom and the plastic piece broke and let greese in the motor. Bought a new one last year and the motor is in the top supposed to be better, don't know yet. If you can add trays to yours get the most that will fit, you'll need them. You can also get a special gun for making jerkey that comes in handy. I don't care for spicy foods so I cut what is recomended in half.

Kids got me one for Christmas, think it's an American Harvest brand. It makes great jerky, both venison and beef. I have dried peppers, tomatoes, and apples. I really like it.
