I am considering buying a Mack truck with a Mack V-8 motor but was advised against it because Mack had trouble with these motors, just wondering if anyone had any experience or information about these motors.
 
We have one at work, its alot more engine then the inline 6 that replaced it. And less trouble too.Jim
 
that is the only motor that would keep up with my 3408 clatterpillar.They where hungry and good runners like was said keep track of rods and mains
 
Mack HP ratings are measured different than other trucks (generally higher in a proper comparison). I think you mean 3406. I don't think 3408's were put in trucks.
 
Dad had two new ones with MACK v8s in about 1985 or so.. Both broke the crank in the first 200 thousand miles.. Would break when you let of then acclerated at mid throttle. I would,t look at one that is 20 years old no way.
