O/T They did it again!!

The girls high school basketball team from my hometown of Seward, Nebraska yesterday won their fourth consecutive Class B State Championship.

They're sitting on a 101 game winning streak. The state record is 111, with nobody between. Several seniors played varsity all four years without ever losing a game. In fact, no player on the championship team ever lost a game.

They're only losing four seniors, so it would be great if they can hang on for eleven more wins and set a new state record for consecutive wins.

Couldn't help myself, just had to brag a bit.
 
I have mixed feelings on that. On one hand it is great that the coach has the ability to put together a champion team. On the other hand I feel at the high school level all players should be given equal playing time which I am sure is not happening for these champion teams. Is high school about coaches or the kids? If the players on the bench did not want to play, they would not have gone out for the sport.
 
Actually, the coaches on both team began cleaning off the bench with younger players in the fourth quarter. After all, these kids will be doing the job in a year or two.

But, I know. I think there is far too much emphasis placed on sports even up into college, but I"d better not get started on it. When I was in college, if infuriated me no end to see students work just as hard to prepare themselves for performing and academic competitions as any athlete, yet when you picked up the newspaper all you saw was ten pages of sports.
 
You know, I have to agree with you on the equal playing time. In fact I think it even ought to extend on to other areas of life after school also. I mean, we all ought to get equal pay, equal benefits, etc. I ought to get the same thing as those evil CEO's and business owners. Why just because they worked hard and took risks doesn't mean that they deserve more than I do. So start teaching kids that early in life. Just because you are more talented and work harder doesn't mean that you should benefit more from your hard work. Life should be fair! Right comrade?
